“CalSavers: Leveling the Playing Field for Small Businesses in California

Overview of why CalSavers is needed, what we currently know and don’t know about the program, employer and employee eligibility for CalSavers, how the program will work and employer responsibilities and how to stay informed as CalSavers is implemented.”

I will briefly go over the general assistance program but we will mostly be talking about the Calfresh Employment and Training program.

The Smart Center

We believe a healthy business community creates economic vitality. We are dedicated to strengthening and supporting businesses in order to create jobs and encourage economic prosperity.

We help businesses with start-up, expansion and retention by providing access to skilled job seekers and employee training. We help businesses succeed and ultimately create more opportunity for job seekers.

Speaker: Bianca Blomquist directs Small Business Majority’s outreach and education efforts for the Bay Area and Northern California. Prior to joining, Bianca served as a legislative aide on Capitol Hill for a member of the House Financial Services Committee and as a legislative representative handling federal healthcare, transportation and workforce issues. She has also campaigned in Southern California and Wisconsin on both state and national policy issues affecting working families.

Speakers: Cassandra Zucco & Martha Erdman

Employed by Health and Human Services agency

Cassie has been a employed or 15 years doing the Cal fresh Employment & Training Worker for General Assistance program. Cassie brings the common sense and down to earth approach when dealing with clients and barriers. She is certified in the “New World of Work” program which teaches our population the 21st Century way of obtaining employment.

Martha has been a part of this department for 15 years. For the last 6 years Supervising Eligiblity/General Assistance. I provide support to eligibility staff, disability advocates and the employment training workers.

Speaker: Tasha VanDunk

Business Service Representative for the Smart Center. Chairman of the North Valley Employer Advisory Council. Tasha is a Community minded professional who really enjoys assisting local businesses with their hiring process and offsetting new hire wages by 50% for a three month training period, no cost to employers. Tasha and The Smart Business Resource Center goal is to stimulate the local economy by investing in the growth and development of local businesses.
